Four quintals of ganja recovered in Khatkhati, 2 held

Khatkhati has become the transit point for the trafficking of drugs to the country's other states.

GUWAHATI:

In its crusade against narcotics, Karbi Anglong Police on November 20 recovered four quintals of ganja from a truck at Khatkhati bordering Nagaland.

“Based on specific information, a police team accompanied by 20 Bn CRPF personnel intercepted a truck bearing registration No UP 14A T 7851 near Khatkhati SBI branch in the morning. During the search, four quintals of ganja were recovered from the truck,” a senior police official revealed.

“The consignment was hidden in a modified secret chamber on the body of the truck. Two persons have been arrested in this regard,” the official said.

The arrested have been identified as Ramayan Yadav (52) of Chit Kundi Chakiya under Arah Mufasil police station in Arah Bhojpur district of Bihar and Bhola Yadav (55) of Moshar under Udwat Nagar police station in Arah Bhojpur district of Bihar.

“The consignment was supposed to be delivered to Bihar,” he added.

Khatkhati has become the transit point for the trafficking of drugs to the country’s other states.

The Golden Triangle – Myanmar, Laos and Thailand – has been a source of production and smuggling of drugs to Assam, and the Northeast.

“Th Northeast’s proximity to the golden triangle has made it vulnerable to the trafficking of drugs and narcotics. The flow of illegal drugs leads to violation of national security which is the foremost concern of the country,” the official added.
