Guwahati, Mar 17: A resident of Guwahati Banajit Barman, was arrested in a case of deceit and fraud by Police in Guwahati on Saturday.
He allegedly duped large amounts of money, ranging from 10 to 80 lakhs, from various people in Assam. He lured them of providing business opportunities in various sectors like timber, fish, and vegetable trading.
After his arrest, many victims have come forward, revealing bounced cheques given by Barman. It is reported that he even boasted of having connections with a powerful politicians to carry out his scams.
According to sources, he also defrauded many big shot businesman, taking significant amounts of money.
In the past he had allegedly threatened people with a pistol too when they demanded their money back apart from cheating them.
Police has arrested him. Further investigations will make it more clear about the dimensions of the crimes commited by him.
