Garo director from Meghalaya dropped from Cannes

The Society of A.chik Film and Entertainment (SAFE) has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the exclusion of Sangma from the festival.

Internationally acclaimed Garo director Dominic Sangma’s name has been dropped from representing Meghalaya at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 leading to a backlash from the film society in the state.

The Society of A.chik Film and Entertainment (SAFE) has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the exclusion of Sangma from the festival.

“We kindly request your support in highlighting this matter to the wider public through your esteemed media outlet. By shedding light on this issue, we hope to raise awareness and encourage a dialogue about the importance of inclusivity and equal representation in the film industry,” said SAFE members.

Sangma’s film ‘Ma. Ama’ won the Geber Award in best film category at the 14th Jogja NETPAC Asian Film Festival.
