GUWAHATI:
Sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) department arrested the general manager of District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC), Darrang, for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a person in Mangaldai on May 24.
Hemanta Talukdar was caught red-handed by the V&AC sleuths. According to the anti-corruption cell officials, Talukdar had demanded bribe from a person for sanctioning a loan to the complainant under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this V&AC for taking necessary legal action against Talukdar after which the team from the anti-corruption cell jumped into action.
“Accordingly, a trap was laid on Monday by a team from the V&AC at Mangaldoi near the office of the general manager of DICC and Talukder was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at 2.45 pm,” an official statement said.
The bribe money was seized from Talukder in the presence of independent witnesses, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered in the ACB police station under sections 7 (a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Talukder.
