GH teachers’ union demands release of pending salary

“We request Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma to clear our pending salary and arrears on time and redress our grievances at the earliest,” president of the association LG Momin said in a statement issued here.

SHILLONG:

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Monday demanded that the state government release three months’ pending salary of the teachers.

“We request Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma to clear our pending salary and arrears on time and redress our grievances at the earliest,” president of the association LG Momin said in a statement issued here.

The pending salary is from April to June.

Momin said that the aggrieved teachers were suffering a lot in order to meet their day-to-day needs as well as the educational needs of their children. The teachers need to clear their children’s school fees before the half-yearly exams otherwise they would not be allowed to write their exams.

He also expressed concern over the failure of the government to clear the salary on quarterly basis despite assurances made by the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong last year.

According to him, the state government in its press statement recently had mentioned that the pending arears of the SSA teachers was Rs 1191.615 lakh till June.
