GNC supporters accuse NPP of doing injustice to Chokpot

The Chokpot region is a stronghold of the GNC and its former president Late Clifford Marak had won from the assembly constituency multiple times.

TURA:

Political campaigners for regional party Garo National Council (GNC) have accused ruling NPP of doing “injustice” to Chokpot constituency of South Garo Hills by failing to recruit a single employee under the district selection committee.

The Chokpot region is a stronghold of the GNC and its former president Late Clifford Marak had won from the assembly constituency multiple times.

In an election campaign on Sunday in Chokpot for GNC candidate Nikman Ch Marak, party leaders blamed the ruling NPP for taking away employment opportunities meant for the youth of Chokpot.

They particularly pointed the accusing finger at NPP MLA of Siju-Rongara constituency Rakkam A Sangma.

“The DSC conducted exams and interviews multiple times in the last five years for Baghmara, Gasuapara and Chokpot and we were even told by DSC members that as many as 34 candidates for Chokpot had been cleared.  But when the results were declared, no one from Chokpot was selected in the last five years. All the vacant positions were taken away to Siju-Rongara,” accused GNC leaders.

Nikman, who is also the current GHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member, is a strong contender for the upcoming polls and is facing a tight three-cornered contest with the NPP candidate and GHADC Chairman Sengchim N Sangma and TMC’s Lazarus Sangma.

The GNC has been bolstered by the defection of a key NPP leader and aspiring candidate Leoberth R Sangma into their fold. Leoberth had been the forerunner for the NPP party ticket for the upcoming polls, but the high command selected Sengchim which led to a revolt with the former walking away with his supporters into the GNC camp.
