The Governor believes that with the revised NEC General Guidelines of 2015, the Council has been immeasurably addressing the growing hopes and aspirations of the people of the North East region.

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.), on December 18 participated in the golden jubilee celebration of North Eastern Council (NEC) at Shillong that was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister and chairman NEC Amit Shah.

The Governor believes that with the revised NEC General Guidelines of 2015, the Council has been immeasurably addressing the growing hopes and aspirations of the
people of the North East region.

“Development of NEC as a futuristic resource centre for the management of capital, innovation, knowledge and expertise, the Council will achieve its objectives and also give impetus to the ‘Act East’ policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” he said.

The Governor observed that the NEC is focusing on livelihood entrepreneurship, start-up and skill development for generating jobs in the North Eastern Region of India.

“The youth of the region need further motivation to take up start-up ventures like tourism, animal husbandry, bamboo and agri-horticultural projects by the NEC, which will also help in eradicating the decades-long militancy in the region,” he said.

The Governor, who has seen the region since early 1960s as a young infantry officer of Indian Army, believes that addressing the aspirations of the youth through NEC can change the pace of development of the region, which is bestowed with enchanting cultural traditions, mesmerising topography, artistic textiles and handicrafts, virgin natural environment which has huge potential for hydropower and minerals for good.

“It is very heartening that such far-sighted steps are now on the anvil,” he added.
