SHILLONG:
The opening of the State Zoo in Umtrew Village, Ri Bhoi, has been delayed.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, while inspecting the Forest Department of Umtrew in Ri Bhoi District in May, had announced that the zoo would be open to the public by August 15, coinciding with India’s Independence Day, however, the deadline has not been met.
The zoo is being constructed by the state government at a cost of approximately 35 crores.
The State Zoo is currently being built, and once established, it is expected to increase tourism earnings, which would benefit both the state and the citizens of Ri Bhoi.
