Govt in process to implement new state education policy: Rakkam Sangma

When asked if the state will implement the NEP first or the state education policy first, Sangma maintained as the state education policy suits the state educational environment, it will be considered first, and the NEP because of its comprehensive nature will take time.

SHILLONG:

Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, on April 18, said that the MDA 2.0 government is in the process to implement the state’s education policy which has been delayed due to the National Education policy (NEP) as both cannot be implemented at one go, as the latter is a very comprehensive policy.

“There are some sectors which are beyond the state’s capacity due to financial crunch for which we are not able to implement it immediately but the process is on,” Sangma said.

He said that the new education policy is aimed at giving students the best education which will immensely benefit the education sector in the state.

When asked if the state will implement the NEP first or the state education policy first, Sangma maintained as the state education policy suits the state educational environment, it will be considered first, and the NEP because of its comprehensive nature will take time.

“We are examining the overall thing now to bring in a curriculum at par with the national standards so that students can compete with their counterparts from other states, hence the entire exercise will take a little before we go ahead with the policy,” Sangma said.
