Govt officer takes VRS to contest polls from Rambrai-Jyrngam seat

Remington G Momin was the Additional Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) of the West Khasi Hills district.

GUWAHATI:

A government officer, who took voluntary retirement from his service to fight the upcoming state Assembly election from Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency in West Khasi Hills district, drew crowds in his election rallies.

Remington G Momin was the Additional Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) of the West Khasi Hills district. He took VRS only to fight the polls. Momin will be the face of the Rambrai-Jyrngam Constituency Independent Party in the Assembly polls.

He is a resident of Mallangkona, West Khasi Hills, and has also served as a church leader in Baptist Church.

“Remington G Momin was an efficient government officer. He took VRS from government service as the people of the constituency want him to represent this constituency,” said Bhalanglin Khar Lyngdoh, who presided over an election rally of Momin on January 11.

More than 5,000 people belonging to the Khasi and Garo communities attended the election rally organized at Sildubi Playground in Rambrai-Jyrngram assembly constituency in West Khasi Hills district on Wednesday.

“Momin is planning to uplift the constituency and its people,” Lyngdoh said during his speech.

In his address, Momin said, “I was in government service for more than eight years. But I left my job for my people as they want me to fight the election from here. In the upcoming times, God will direct me to serve people for their better future and I will take that path only.”

From the public, youth leader Sharai Kyrpang Hujon said, “We need a true leader who will represent us. There is no true leader in Rambrai-Jyrngam. I thank the people for bringing RG Momin as a true leader.”

“The present MLA is indulging in massive corruption. There is massive corruption in State Secretariat in Shilling. In such a situation we believe RG Momin will work to uplift the constituency.

“The National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) have failed to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of the state. All their constituent parties- United Democratic Party (UDP), People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are less concerned about the problems and grievances of the people. They are working for their own development,” Hujon also said.

Referring to the present MLA of the constituency, Momin said, “I do not want to comment about him, but the people will judge. People of the area already have learned what he did in the past years.”
