Govt to address security issues of Arunachal: Union minister

Centre to provide adequate funds for the welfare of residents along international borders

GUWAHATI:

Union minister of state for Home Nisith Pramanik on Saturday said the issues and concerns of Arunachal Pradesh will be taken up at the central level and projects envisaged for the state will be implemented with full vigour.

Addressing a panel discussion on “Welfare of Tribals and Border Management” organised by the ministry for DoNER and Arunachal Pradesh government in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC) in the DK Auditorium of Arunachal Legislative Assembly at Itanagar, Pramanik pointed at the strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh for the country and assured to resolve security issues in the state.

The event was organised as a part of the North East Festival 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) being organised by the ministry of DoNER celebrating India’s 75 years of independence. The programme was locally hosted by the Department of Planning and Investment, Arunachal Pradesh.

The Union minister also said adequate funds will be allocated to Arunachal Pradesh for the welfare of people living in villages along international borders.

Stressing upon the resolution of the central government in the development of Arunachal Pradesh, the Union minister said that the socio-economic development of remote border regions in the state and the welfare of the local population hold prime importance. 

In his address, Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein mentioned that the welfare of tribals and the development of border areas in Arunachal Pradesh go hand in hand. 

Stressing on ‘our culture, our pride’, Mein emphasised on the role of research and documentation of rich culture of the state. 

He also highlighted the achievements of the state in the preservation of indigenous culture. 

Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker PD Sona threw light on the issues of connectivity in border areas, improving the correlation between the forces and the local villagers and also requested the central government to consider the conditions and ground reality of the border areas while framing policies at the national level.

In his address, Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Border Management, Bamang Felix, spoke on the efforts by the state in the development of the border areas and capacity building of border personnel. 

He also talked about achievements in improving the policing system. He stressed that more concerted efforts need to be made to enhance the financial resources of the state, with support from the central government.

Arunachal Health Minister Alo Libang highlighted the achievements of the state in the welfare of tribals and mentioned that the financial constraints of the state need due attention of the central government and more assistance may be provided for the holistic development of the state.
