NONGPOH:
The government has chosen 75 locations in the Ri Bhoi district for construction of fisheries and encourage residents to take up this opportunity for sustainable livelihood.
This was informed by MCS director BJ Kharshandi, who graced the launch of “Amrit Sarovar” under the Amrit Mahotsav programme at Mawtneng village for renovation of a community fishery pond, on June 2, as the chief guest.
Kharshandi lauded the initiatives taken by the village authority to set up a community fishery pond for the village and said that fishery is a source of livelihood for several people. Therefore, the government has granted the scheme under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS).
The work order for the renovation amounting to Rs 16, 87, 942 lakhs was handed over to the chairman of the village executive committee.
Kharsandi also urged the people to plant trees for the preservation and conservation of nature. CJK Warjri, BDO and members of the village executive committee were also present at the event.
