SHILLONG:
Education minister Lahkmen Rymbui has said that the process of enhancing the salaries of ad-hoc teachers is on.
“It is being worked out, but it is easier said than done because whatever decision we take does not only affect the Education department but other departments as well,” Rymbui said.
The Education minister said that the duty of the government is not only to pay salaries, but it also has to ensure that other social sectors are not impacted by the decision taken by it. Besides, the government also has to see whether the decision taken by it can be fulfilled or not.
The Education minister said that the government will take a conscious decision for the welfare of all stakeholders.
He also said that the government is working out how much and what is to be increased after doing proper calculation.
It may be mentioned that the ad-hoc teachers are demanding a salary hike of Rs 18000 as well as a five per cent increment annually.
Rymbui also appealed to the ad-hoc school teachers, who are agitating under the banner of Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM), to work together with the government.
“We have to trust each other. We are all stakeholders,” Rymbui said.
He said that the government should be responsible for all sections of society and not only one.
He said that the issue is complex since any decision taken will have a cascading effect since the fund is not of the Education department but of the government.
