Group involved in Tura violence belong to external agencies, probe will reveal linkages: CM

He said that all the statements derived after the attack revealed that there were agencies, groups, and individuals, who were not connected to the meeting, indicating that a lot of these people who instigated the violence happen to be from some political parties.

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed that the members who hijacked his meeting and created violence at CMO office in Tura on July 24 were not part of the NGOs whom he was holding meeting with, and the entire group belonged to different agencies or political parties.

“The members who were standing outside were not part of the organisation that had come to meet me. That’s when we figured out that there was something more complicated than what initially was though. Seemed that the people were not part of the movement and strike that was going on for the past few weeks,” Sangma said.

The Chief Minister informed that as per reports, a maximum of 10-15 people used to be on strike daily, and the crowd on the day of the meeting was beyond what was imagined.

“I want to be very clear on my stand, anybody who will be arrested, picked up, or any case that will be filed will be purely on the basis of evidence. What happened was not correct, and we had gone with a positive intention to listen to the concerns of the people,” he said.

He said that all the statements derived after the attack revealed that there were agencies, groups, and individuals, who were not connected to the meeting, indicating that a lot of these people who instigated the violence happen to be from some political parties.

“Despite the link, we are not going by political parties or we are not saying that these are the political parties behind the attack, but everything we do will be based on evidence, “he said.
