HC allows more time on Umroi land

“The time to complete the enquiry and to furnish a report thereupon is extended by three months from the date. Such direction is peremptory,” the division bench said in its order after hearing a PIL on the matter.

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday extended the time to complete the enquiry into the acquisition of additional land for the expansion of the Umroi airport, by another three months.

“The time to complete the enquiry and to furnish a report thereupon is extended by three months from the date. Such direction is peremptory,” the division bench said in its order after hearing a PIL on the matter.

The enquiry is being conducted by the district and session judge, Ri Bhoi on the acquisition of additional land for the purpose of the Umroi airport.

The order was also passed after the district judge had written to the registry requesting for an extension of time.

The bench also directed the district judge to ensure that no unnecessary adjournment is granted to any of the parties. The parties are also requested to cooperate in the matter and not seek any adjournment at all.

The next hearing will be held on September 6.
