Health Minister inspects health institutes in West Khasi Hills

Speaking to media persons, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said as a minister, it is important for her to visit every district, inspect, and monitor the health care system in each district.

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on June 26, inspected the different health centres in the West Khasi Hills district – these included the Maternal and Child Health Hospital, TB Hospital, and the Nongstoin Civil Hospital.

After the inspection, the minister called all health officials from the district for a meeting on the different lapses and requirements for improving the health care delivery in the district.

Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said as a minister, it is important for her to visit every district, inspect, and monitor the health care system in each district.

On the shifting of equipment from MCH Nongstoin, Lyngdoh said the government felt that leaving expensive equipment at MCH unused for a long time might damage them; hence it was decided to move them to Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills which is still running short of equipment.

The shipment of medical equipment from the MCH at Upper New Nongstoin to Mawkyrwat has been continuing despite repeated objections from residents of the West Khasi Hills district on the relocation.

When inquired about the timeline to open MCH Nongstoin, the minister’s response wasn’t clear. She said that she has only come to review the functioning of the health institutes in the district.

All the medical equipment has been sanctioned for the MCH at Nongstoin despite the fact that the health care institute is yet to be operationalised.
