Heavy rainfall to continue in NE states till June 12: IMD

Most of the Northeast states will receive light to moderate rainfall or extremely heavy rainfall from June 9 to June 12.

GUWAHATI:

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on June 8, predicted that heavy rainfall over the Northeastern states will continue till June 12.

“The east-west trough runs from north Punjab to Manipur across north Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya at 0.9 km above mean sea level. A north-south trough runs roughly along Long. 90°E and to the north of Lat. 20°N at 3.1 km above mean sea level,” said Dr Sanjay O’Neil Shaw, deputy director-general of RMC, IMD in Guwahati.

“Due to the above systems, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over northeastern states from June 8 to 12,” Shaw said.

Under the present condition, light to moderate rainfall, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at most places in Arunachal Pradesh on June 9 and on June 10.

Assam and Meghalaya will receive light to moderate rainfall, isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at most places on June 9 and on June 10.

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall at many places on June 9 and June 10.

On June 11, Arunachal Pradesh will receive light to moderate rainfall, isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at most places. Assam and Meghalaya will witness light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at most places, and most places of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall.

On June 12, Arunachal Pradesh will have light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, most places of Assam and Meghalaya will receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will witness light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall at most places.
