Heroin worth Rs 5 crore seized in Assam’s Jagiroad, 3 held

The consignment was brought from Manipur and was to be delivered in Guwahati, the police said

GUWAHATI:

 In a major breakthrough, the police seized 567 gm of heroin worth Rs 5 crore from the National Highway at Jagiroad in Assam’s Morigaon district on the intervening night of April 29.

Three persons, identified as Basir Khan and Altaf Khan from Manipur and Jeheul, a resident of Assam, have been arrested in this connection.

“Our patrol party saw a truck and a pickup van near a petrol pump on the National Highway 37 in the wee hours of today. The police personnel carried out a search operation and found 43 soap packets from the two vehicles. Collectively, the boxes contain 567 gm of heroin,” Morigaon additional superintendent of police Supratibhlal Baruah, said.

 The consignment was brought from Manipur and was to be delivered in Guwahati, Barua informed.

 Both the vehicles bearing registration No NL01K9543 and NL01N5480 were seized in this connection. The police also seized another auto van No AS0KC5660 in connection with the seizure.

 “The consignment has been sent to the forensic laboratory for testing,” Barua added.
