GUWAHATI:
The Guwahati City police arrested four persons and seized 765 gm of suspected heroin worth Rs 6 crore in the international market from their possession near the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) at Khanapara, on May 1.
Of the arrested, three persons – Kelvin Klein, Mankhro Ronghang, Manik Engti – are from Nongpoh, Meghalaya and one, Dhrubajyoti Bora from Nagaon, Assam, said Dimple Goyari, officer-in-charge of Basistha Police Station.
“Based on specific input, our team intercepted a MUV vehicle bearing Meghalaya registration (No ML10C6411) near the SIRD office at Khanapara. During the search, we recovered 60 packets of suspected heroin weighing 765 gm,” Goyari said.
The office in charge further informed that the consignment is suspected to have been brought from Manipur via Khatkhati Check Gate in Karbi Anglong and was supposed to be handed over to some person in Guwahati.
