Himas to move court on MoU, not KHADC

SHILLONG:

Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member in charge of Elaka administration, Jambor War, on Thursday said that it is the five Himas (chiefdoms) that will approach the court on the Assam-Meghalaya border MoU and not the KHADC.

“The Himas are in possession of land and they will have the documents. The KHADC will only assist them. There was earlier a misinterpretation that the KHADC will approach the court but that is not so,” he told reporters on Thursday.

It may be mentioned that five Himas comprising Hima Jirang, Hima Mylliem, Hima Nongspung, Hima Nonglang, and Jyrngam Sirdarship have opposed the MoU that was signed on March 29.

War said that they can seek the aid of the KHADC as the custodian of the Himas and the places under the jurisdiction of the Council.
