HITO appeals coalition partners to withdraw from MDA govt

HITO president, Donbok Dkhar said that as a pressure group, they will advocate for candidates with clean image be it from any party, but not from the MDA coalition partners.

SHILLONG:

The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has appealed to coalition partners to withdraw from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government within three days.

Addressing a press conference on December 23, HITO president, Donbok Dkhar said, “We have sent letters to the coalition partners of the MDA namely the UDP, BJP, PDF, and HSPDP to withdraw support to the government. If they do not withdraw their support, then it is seen that they have a hand in bringing casinos in the state. We are giving them three days time to withdraw support and if they fail to do so, we will go to the public and speak out against them and the NPP.”

He said that it will be a tough time for the political parties in the election 2023 and will bring along ‘evidences’ to the public.

Dkhar claimed that the UDP was ready to hold the special session but the NPP does not want to, and also alleged that the NPP will likely go ahead with casinos if it comes to power as seen in the recent reports submitted by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on casinos, race course to the finance minister.

Dkhar said that as a pressure group, they will advocate for candidates with clean image be it from any party, but not from the MDA coalition partners.

“We are not here for any political party, but we are rooting for a candidate who is enlightened. The candidate can be from any party except from the MDA coalition partners. We can canvas for VPP, TMC, we can canvas for others as well,” he said.
