SHILLONG:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and former MLA, HM Shangpliang, on May 17, refuted claims that he had asked the party for a ticket to contest the upcoming MP election.
Shangpliang said, “I saw in one news channel that I had asked a ticket from the BJP to contest the MP election and I want to say that there is nothing of that sort. I have not even decided on it yet.”
When asked if he was offered to contest in the MP election, Shangpliang said that there has not been any offer nor has the party discussed about the MP election in their meetings, adding that if he was offered to take part in the MP election, he will take it as an opportunity to serve the people better.
He asserted that if the state has a representative in the Parliament, he or she will serve as the state’s voice and be able to advance developments.
Furthermore, Shangpliang said that the state party president has announced that there are 2-3 aspirants who are able to contest the election but it depends on the party.
“I am not a person who will just go and ask for a ticket; it is the party and the public who will decide if I am a deserving candidate. So, the party will decide,” Shangpliang added.
