SHILLONG:

The Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP), Mawshynrut, on March 6, expressed concern over protesting and torching effigies of the party MLAS, urging the NGOs to apologise to the MLAs.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting at Seinduli, West Khasi Hills district, HSPDP president Melcome Umyiap said that the incidents hurt the sentiments of people, especially the MLAs, further claiming that the incidents have brought a communal disturbance among the Khasi people.

Expressing sadness over the personal office of Mawshynrut MLA has being torched, Umyiap added, “From the beginning, we have decided that if we came to power we should be in the government since our constituency is lacking behind in many developmental activities compared to others.”

He added, “These are the same NGOs that come to Mawshynrut before the election to educate and encourage the people how to choose their representative, unfortunately, the same NGOs have incited hatred in the people of Mawshynrut which has affected the safety and security of the family members of our MLA and our party leaders.”

Umyiap clarified that the MLAs did not betray people or the ideology of the party but were only supporting the formation of the government, further adding that the party will not take any rude decision but will reply with kindness.
