HSPDP urges review of reservation policy

SHILLONG:

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) held on Tuesday felt the need to review the state reservation policy in the best interest of the youths of the state.

“This reservation policy has been there in the state for many years. In fact there should be a review of this policy,” HSPDP president KP Pangniang said.

He said that the party will rope in experts on the matter and thoroughly discuss it and after getting suggestions on whether to have a relook on the reservation policy.

Pangniang said that if one based their argument on the population of Khasi-Jaintia along with those in Garo Hills, the latter has more.

He therefore said that the 40 percent-40 percent for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo is not rational.

“Is this 40 percent-40 percent reservation for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo justified as per the population,” the HSPDP president said.

It may be mentioned that after a High Court order, the Meghalaya government approved the roster system for implementation of the reservation policy.

Pangniang informed that the review of the reservation policy will be included in the manifesto of the party.
