HSPDP will gather seats in 2023 polls: Pangniang

SHILLONG:

Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president, KP Pangniang, has said that the party will be a priority as far as allotting the Nongstoin ticket is concerned.

Nongstoin is known to be the stronghold of the HSPDP, however, the party has recently slipped as the MLA is from NPP and the MDC is a Congressman.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “There are many who have applied for the party ticket, which has created confusion amongst the supporters. But now we are going with this spirit – the party is the priority, and the candidate is secondary. The party that Maieit Hoping has established let good fortune bestow upon it again.”

Furthermore, he added, “We have lost the Nongstoin seat after the demise of Maieit Hoping and even the MDC seat. It is usually seen that children are scattered once the parents are no more; perhaps that is where we went wrong. But this year in 2023 election, the party will start gathering.”

Recalling that the party was born in Nongstoin, he urged the people to come back and help the party regain its strength and ensure that they come up with a candidate who will implement the manifesto in the party.

At the same time, Pangniang also felt that the regional parties should be on the same platform.

“Alliance of regional parties is the need of the hour. The programmes and issues are similar. It is time that people should turn their attention to regional parties,” he said.
