SHILLONG:
Hubert Paliar, a native of Mawliehbah, West Khasi Hills 15 kilometres from Nongstoin, all set to compete in the World Arm Wrestling Championship in Turkey in the 55 Kg senior category.
The championship will run from October 14 to October 23.
Paliar, who has a hearing impediment, is one of ten arm wrestlers competing in the tournament. Alan S Marbaniang, Kishore Chettri, Everson Thangkhiew, Angel Merry Mylliem Umlong, Airikymenlang Lyngdoh, Margaret Pathaw, Alexander Lyngdoh, and Banshan Terang are among the others. Nick Nonglyer and Mainbor Khyriem (Refree/Official) (Refree).
Miriam Thangkhiew, Paliar’s wife, told reporters on Wednesday that her husband has been trainimng religiously for a month and is very thrilled to compete in the upcoming competition. Thangkhiew also extended appreciation to the government, the Department of Sports, the Dorbar Shnong of Nongkseh, and all those who have financially supported her husband.
Paliar is a trained baker and has worked for Home Delights Bakers & Confectioners.
Since his childhood, he has been interested in sports, notably football and arm wrestling. He competed in and won the Meghalaya Arm Wrestling Championship in May 2015. He recently competed in the 40th National Arm Wrestling Championship, which was held at G.H. Raisoni Polytechnic in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
