SHILLONG:
HYC Shella Area Unit on September 27, organised an event at Shillong Club to hand over financial assistance to 3 young athletes Mary Jone Syngwan, Pdiangsuklang Syngwan, Banpynshngain Syngwan from Shella who will be representing the state in the 36th National Games Aquatic Championship, in Gujarat.
HYC provided financial assistance of Rs 5000 each as a token amount and wishes them luck in the upcoming competition.
Roy Kupar Synrem, the general secretary, HYC CEC, who is also a native of Shella village, in a short speech, congratulated these athletes for being selected to represent the state in the national competition.
He also lauded the youth and everyone involved from Shella for successfully winning 10 medals in the latest Meghalaya Games.
He also congratulated all the youth from the village who had represented the state in various national championship in the past few months.
He also lamented about the fact that though there are swimmers from Shella and other areas of the state that have the potential to bring medals for the state at the National,
Yet the Government is not taking steps to create infrastructure at those areas with potential so that these athletes can be trained and guided properly. Coaches are not appointed and hence the swimmers are facing problems to realise their full potential.
He called upon the Government to implement the State Sports Policy in letter and spirit so that the objective of the Policy is realised and youth are encouraged to take up sports seriously and likely sports become an alternative employment opportunities for them.
Lastly He urged these youth to work hard despite many hardships and not to lose hope but concentrate on the sports and bring laurels to the state as a whole and the Village, in particular.
