SHILLONG:
The ICAR Research Complex for NE Region, Umiam in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra organised a day-long agriculture technology outreach and capacity building programme under Tribal Sub Plan on March 26, for livelihood improvement of tribal farmers of Shella Bholaganj.
On the occasion, various important agricultural inputs worth Rs 5 lakh were distributed to the farmers selected by the Mission. More than 80 beneficiaries were covered by the inputs which included 40 back mounted sprayers, 20 Â water pumps of 1.5 HP, 20 water tanks of 1000-litre capacity, 20 vermi-bed silpaulin sheets, 5 jalkund silpaulin sheets, 38 insect light traps, farm hand tools of Rs 50,000 and animal medicines of Rs 50,000 along with animal feeds, a statement said.
Welcoming the delegates, Swami Anuragananda, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra thanked the ICAR for taking the noble initiative and expressed his keen interest to extend the activities of the Mission in agriculture sector also. V K Mishra, Director ICAR Research Complex said that this humble approach would help the organisation and the farmers of the area to come closer. He also shared his vision on establishment of a model village which will be sound in agriculture and allied sectors where the farmers and the villagers can attract tourists with their farm products to this historic place which is already a popular tourist destination.
