Shillong:
The first event of IGU Gentlemen Amateur Tour- Assam Amateur Golf Championship 2022 was played from April 5 to 8 at the historic Digboi Golf Links being organized under the aegis of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and hosted by DigboiClub.
Fifty two top ranked Indian players have competed in the event. The event was inaugurated on 4th April by Kailash Pati , ED & RH of IOCL (AOD) , Digboi .The Tournament Director Prantar Baruah managed to complete the tournament in inspite of continuous rain throughout the tournament . Eventually the tournament was won by Milind Soni who had shot 6 under with a total score 0f 282 and the runners up position was shared by Shaurya Bhattacharya and Horimohan Singh with a total score of 283 in four days of play.
Gaurav Bajaj – Member of Governing Council, Chairman of Technical , Rules and Amateur Status Committee (TRASC) – IGU said that “We are fully committed to the growth and development of Golf in North East India. Earlier two National events were also held in Shillong last year.We are also looking at conducting events in other part of Assam this year and are in talks with few of the Golf Clubs of Assam.”
The venue, the picturesque Digboi Golf Links, is a golfer’s delight. The course is a one of its kind in terms of ambience as it is situated among the lush tea estates and thick forests of eastern Assam. The historic Digboi Golf Links is bordered by the Dehing forest reserve on three sides and the magnificent Patkai range of mountains on the fourth.
Indian Golf Union (IGU) is the National Sports Federation for Golf in India and the Governing body for the game in the Country. One of the main objectives of the IGU is promotion and development of the game at the grassroots and also in the world arena.
