IIM Shillong celebrates International Yoga Day

IIM Shillong, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrated International Yoga Day by organising a three-day event.

SHILLONG:

Along with the rest of the world, IIM Shillong celebrated International Yoga Day recently.

The institute has been observing the day as a key event since the United Nations declared June 21 to be the day dedicated to yoga in 2015 since it considers it to be an accomplishment for all Indians. The Prime Minister of India, who made the suggestion in his speech to the UN General Assembly in September 2014, was responsible for the decision.

IIM Shillong, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav this year, celebrated International Yoga Day by organising a three-day event from June 21 to June 23 at its Umsawli Campus. The event included morning yoga sessions, along with a quiz and poster-making competition for students.

Prof DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong, at the inauguration spoke about the importance of yoga and its long-term benefits.

“In the modern times, it is crucial for both the mind and the body to be perfectly healthy and active, and yoga is the perfect medium to achieve that goal,” he said.

The morning yoga sessions at the campus were facilitated by yoga practitioners from the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH). More than 300 participants, including students, faculty and staff took part in the event.
