IIT Guwahati ranked 7th in NIRF rankings, USTM among 200 varsities

GUWAHATI:

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG), has been ranked 7th in the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) in the ‘Engineering’ Category this year, while the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been ranked among the top 200 universities of the country.

In the overall category IIT-G has been placed 8th this year.

The USTM is the only private university in the Northeastern region to achieve this place this year.

Announcing the NIRF 2022 ranking results, Union education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The list of top Institutes released in NIRF 2022 showcases the impartial and qualitative assessment done by the Ministry of Education. Our Prime Minister had the vision to make sure all Higher Education Institutions should be able to highlight their outstanding performance to the young aspirants.”

“Knowledge-based innovation, entrepreneurship, and digitalisation is the way forward for emerging countries. Blended multidisciplinary programs at institutes like IITs is the need of the hour. Industry’s expectation of engineering technocrats having managerial capabilities is an example of the same. The time has arrived when India will lead the education front globally,” Pradhan added,

Congratulating the Institute on its performance, IITG director Prof TG Sitharam said, “The performance of the institute directly reflects the contribution of the students and the faculty members and we will continue to support their efforts”

Highlighting the plans for coming years, Prof Sitharam said, “The institute is making efforts for promoting interdisciplinary research by initiating several academic schools and centres as part of NEP2020 implementation. This will not only enhance interaction among top academicians and enhance the standards of higher education but also bring to the forefront the best academic practices and also enhance our abilities to solve societal problems”

IIT Madras continued to become the top institute this year in the overall category. the Indian Institute of Science has been placed 1st, Jawaharlal Nehru University 2nd and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi has been placed at the 3rd rank.

The NIRF ranking 2022 list under different categories such as engineering, medical, management, law etc. is now available on the NIRF official website –nirfindia.org. There are a total of 11 categories under which the Indian universities are ranked. The total number of institutions participating in NIRF ranking 2022 is 7,254.

The Indian universities and colleges are ranked based on teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and peer perception. Apart from these six parameters, there are about 16 to 18 sub-parameters used for ranking the institutions in different categories.
