IPFT brushes aside speculations of alliance with TIPRA ahead of 2023 assembly election

AGARTALA:

Brushing aside speculations that the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) may form an alliance ahead of the 2023 assembly polls, newly elected president of IFPT NC Debbarma, on May 12, clarified that all such assumptions are baseless and the party will continue its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Debbarma made the announcement during an emergency meeting of the party held at state conference held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on May 12.

According to sources, Debbarma was made the president after incumbent president Mevar Kumar Jamatia was removed from the post following internal differences among the party members.

“I want to make one thing clear that IPFT will not merge with any other party, and we will continue to work with the BJP. Our party will maintain its sanctity and will purse the demand for Tipraland,” Debbarma said.

Accusing some of his party leaders for spreading baseless rumours, he said that stringent disciplinary actions will be taken against them.

According to the party leaders, of the 33 division, 27 divisions of IPFT attended the party meeting.

“Those who could not attend the meeting extended their support towards the resolution through telephonic conversation. The total number of delegates of the meeting stood at 410,” said Debbarma.

However, there was no reaction from Mevar Kumar Jamatia who was absent from the meeting.
