NPP candidate from Nongthymmai constituency Jasmine Lyngdoh lashed out at the BJP over ‘dynasty politics’ remarks and said that the term has been overused, misused and misconstrued to gain brownie points.
“This is something that has been misconstrued. When people talk about dynastic politics, I think they are forgetting one important factor – when you are already born into a family of politicians, you tend to have those skills, mind-frame and mindset to serve the public,” Lyngdoh said.
The first-time candidate comes from a family that has produced politicians like the late PG Marbaniang, late RG Lyngdoh and Ampareen Lyngdoh.
“I think I have been very fortunate that my family has been in politics for the last 50 years, and that means that we already know how to approach people, how to address their issues,” she said.
Stating that she has learned a lot from her father (PG Marbaniang), her brother (RG Lyngdoh) and sister (Ampareen Lyngdoh), Lyngdoh said, “Yes, it does matter a lot that you are coming from a family of politicians,” adding that the love and genuineness attached with being a politician is a different experience altogether.
“Unfortunately, it could also be that people take advantage of the power but sorry, my family has not taken advantage of that power and control. We have worked very hard and that has been taught to us – to work hard, to provide to the society and to take responsibility and instil a sense of commitment,” the NPP candidate added.
Jasmine Lyngdoh will be going up against veteran politician and sitting MLA Charles Pyngrope of the TMC and Dr Jemino Mawthoh of the UDP.
