JOWAI:
The condition of the Jowai bypass has gone from bad to worse, and requires immediate attention of the Public Works Department (PWD) inorder to ease the problems faced by commuters and the smooth vehicular movement.
Jowai has always been in the news for poor condition of roads, causing inconvenience to the thousands of vehicles that pass through the roads everyday.
Due to this, traffic snarls have become a common sight in the region.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya High Court has on December 13 directed the state to file a status report on the condition of the Jowai bypass and to repair the road by February 3, 2023.
The Meghalaya High Court had issued an order after hearing the PIL filed by one Kynjaimon Amse of East Jaintia Hills District.
The high court stated that vehicles coming from the Shillong side and going to Khliehriat and beyond, particularly goods vehicles, use the bypass. Similarly, Shillong or Guwahati-bound vehicles coming from the Silchar side and not needing to go to Jowai use the bypass. Such bypass is in a deplorable condition and requires immediate repair.
The Jowai Bypass falls under the Jowai PWD (R) Central) division.
