SHILLONG:
Justice (Retd) BP Katakey, on April 21, gave an assessment on illegal coal trade in the state and said that he has himself seen the illegal transportation, following which questions were raised with the government on why illegal transportation was continuing unabated.
“When apprised, the government immediately appointed a DSP-rank MPS officer to make an enquiry, the preliminary enquiry report of which has been submitted, and final report on the same is being awaited,” he said.
Katakey is heading a committee to recommend measures to be taken by the state government in compliance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on coal-related issues.
