A large number of people from Karbi Anglong gathered at the forest check gate of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Khanduli, on May 11, to enter Khanduli forcefully after the Village Dorbar Shnong decided to restrict the Karbi community to pass through the village.
Village headman Yooshida Nongspung alleged that the Karbi people wanted to enter the village forcefully to create trouble, however they were prevented from doing so by the Khanduli villagers.
The Dorbar Shnong decided to restrict the Karbi community to pass through the village or come to Khanduli market after the Karbis threatened the villagers from going to their paddy fields.
The restriction imposed by the village Dorbar of Khanduli has caused inconvenince to the Karbi people residing on the other side of the Meghalaya – Assam border.
Till the filing of this report, no clashes were reported between the two communities.
