KHADC approves Land Act rules

Speaking to reporters after chairing the Executive Committee (EC) meeting, KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne said, "We have approved the rules of the Land Act, which has already got the assent of the governor."

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on June 13 approved the rules for the implementation of the Land Act.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the Executive Committee (EC) meeting, KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne said, “We have approved the rules of the Land Act, which has already got the assent of the governor.”

He informed that the EC has also accepted the recommendations made by the sub-committee led by Lamphrang Blah on how to strengthen the land department.

The committee also suggested the need to maintain land records through digitisation as per new technology, he added.

According to him, the rules will be tabled in the upcoming summer session of the council.

BUILDING BYELAWS

The KHADC has  constituted the Regulatory Authority for the implementation of the building  byelaws within the jurisdiction of the Council.

“We have formed the regulatory authority for the implementation of the building byelaws but we still do not have the manpower for it,” Chyne said.

He said in view of this the EC has decided to create a separate cell in order to start issuing the building permission as per the byelaws.

Chyne said that there is a need for manpower, engineers and architects in order to start implementing the building byelaws in letter and spirit.

TAXI TRADING LICENSE

He also said that checking of trading licenses of local taxis driven by non-indigenous people will continue.

“Such checking by the Council will continue against such illegal practices,” Chyne said.

Chyne said that he has instructed the trade department to see that non-locals who do not have any labour license will not get trading license to drive local taxis.

The CEM said that notification of the district council with regard to changing surname just by affidavit indicates that no one can just declare their surname through an affidavit.

Chyne said that the notification of the KHADC indicates that any authority must not entertain anyone who wants to change their surname only through an affidavit.
