KHADC raises age limit for jobseekers to 37

Addressing a press conference on June 23, he said, “There will be an amendment to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Service Amendment Rules, 2023.This is as per the rules followed by the state government.”

SHILLONG:

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said on Friday that the Council had raised the upper age limit for job aspirants to 37 years from 32 years.

Addressing a press conference after chairing a meeting of the executive committee (EC), he informed that the budget session will be held from June 24 till June 28 and important bills will be taken up.

He said, “There will be the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (Service Amendment) Rules, 2023. This amendment will open an opportunity for job aspirants and this will be as per the rules followed by the state government.”

The other amendment concerns the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Protection and Promotion of Khasi Traditional Medicine), first amendment bill 2023 regarding distribution of certificates to traditional healers.

Syiem also pointed out that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Members’ Pension Bill (repeal) 2023 will be put on hold for re-examination and review as per decision of the executive committee.

He refused to speak much on the matter as it is sub judice.

KHADC office shift

Syiem said that the executive committee has decided to ask the government for land in New Shillong in order to shift the office of the Council.

He said that the shift was necessary given the congestion in the present office and the other reason is that many government departments are being shifted to New Shillong.

“To take the matter forward, there will be a committee. There is also the department on Council building and assets, so the executive member in charge will take up with the government to finalise the details regarding the area needed, plan estimate, and structure,” he said.

As for the Council’s plans with regard to the existing building, Syiem said nothing has been decided yet although he was of the view that it could be used as a godown, set up shops etc as it is situated in a commercial area.

Trading license

Stressing on the strict implementation of the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation Act, Syiem said that the EC will continue the inspection of non-tribal traders within the jurisdiction of the Council.

“Those without trading licenses will be asked to close down. We want to make it clear that this EC will be very strict and we will continue the inspection of any business activity,” he said.
