Kharlukhi happy over scientific mining

The MP said that he had stayed in Jaintia Hills as a young boy and he remembers that there was nothing before the coal mining started.

SHILLONG:

The state unit president of the NPP and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), W R Kharlukhi has welcomed the green signal to scientific mining in the state.

“At least it will help my people,” Kharlukhi said.

The MP said that he had stayed in Jaintia Hills as a young boy and he remembers that there was nothing before the coal mining started.

Kharlukhi said that coal mining has helped a lot and people have started to live a comfortable life.

He felt that the coal mining ban was harsh and it deprived people of earning a livelihood.

Kharlukhi said that when one speaks of coal mining it is not only about the revenue that the state gets but it has affected the people who are indirectly involved with the trade.

“When a truck starts from a mine it not only serves the people of the coal mining area but throughout the highway,” he said.
