KHNAM advocates removal of RR Colony from signboards, calls for replacement with Them Rynjah

In a letter to the dorbar shnong, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said the Hima Mylliem vide its notification in 2019 has included the refugee colony (RR Colony) in the ambit of the dorbar shnong Rynjah and the same has been confirmed by the KHADC.

SHILLONG:

The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on January 25 urged the dorbar shnong of Rynjah to remove the name “RR Colony” from all signboards and replace with the same with Them Rynjah.

In a letter to the dorbar shnong, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said the Hima Mylliem vide its notification in 2019 has included the refugee colony (RR Colony) in the ambit of the dorbar shnong Rynjah and the same has been confirmed by the KHADC.

He said in the same year, the Hima Mylliem and the KHADC renamed the Refugee Colony/RR Colony to “Them Rynjah”.

“However, it is shocking to see that, to date when we pass through the areas of Them Rynjah, we still see signboard indications with a wrong name i.e RR Colony, which is misleading and in violation of the Notification issued by the Hima Mylliem and the direction of the KHADC passed in the year 2019,” he said.

“Since the said area falls under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong Rynjah, we did not feel it right to take any matter into our own hands, therefore we humbly request the Dorbar Shnong Rynjah to erase all signboards mentioning “RR Colony” and replace them with the correct name “Them Rynjah” at the earliest in order to avoid misinformation and to ensure protection of indigenous names of our localities,” he stated in the letter.
