Kin, friends refuse to buy Walinda’s death theory

Her father Rubi Binong told The Meghalayan that he was not satisfied with the post-mortem report as certain aspects did not seem to fit. He said he had asked the police how the professors, who informed him of the cause of her death, knew she had consumed poison and then hanged to death even before post-mortem was conducted.

NONGPOH:

The post-mortem report of 18-year-old Walinda Binong, who is reported to have died of suicide at her hostel in Sikar, Rajasthan, has said that she died of asphyxia due to hanging, but her family and friends are not completely convinced.

Walinda died on April 27 at her hostel in School of Design under the Mody University where she was studying fashion designing.

Her father Rubi Binong, who brought her mortal remains home at Marngar under Nongpoh police station in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday, suspected jealousy of her seniors could have contributed to her daughter’s death.

He said Walinda was selected to represent the university, but that did not go down well with her seniors, particularly since she was from the North East. “She had received threats, too,” he alleged.

He also told The Meghalayan that he was not satisfied with the post-mortem report as certain aspects did not seem to fit. He said he had asked the police how the professors, who informed him of the cause of her death, knew she had consumed poison and then hanged to death even before post-mortem was conducted.

A few of Walinda’s friends even suspect her boyfriend.

They said they knew Walinda from Class VII and she could not have taken her own life.

“We are suspecting her boyfriend Vishal Singh Chauhan who she used to tag on Instagram and they used to also post their photographs together,” one of the friends said. “But since the incident, all the posts between Walinda and her boyfriend have been deleted by him and he is no longer active on social media. He might be the reason for the cause of death,” she alleged.

Walinda’s aunt told The Meghalayan that she had video-called them on April 26 and she said everything was fine with her and also told my husband about her selection from the university as the best designer.

“She was ever-smiling and made all around her happy and had a big dream for her career; she wouldn’t commit suicide. Someone is responsible and passing it off as suicide,” she said tears welling up in her eyes.

Her cousin brother, Wominstar Binong, casting aspersion on the post-mortem report, said Walinda’s body bore blood clots on her chest, back, neck, hand and leg, and the mark on her neck does not seem to be left by hanging but strangled with a rope after being beaten up,” he said.

On the professors’ contention on how she had died, he said, “This is unbelievable because after consuming poison she wouldn’t have had the strength to hang herself. Besides, why hang if she believed she would die from poisoning anyway?” he asked.
