Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju visited the Ri Bhoi district to review the developmental works undertaken under the Centre’s “Aspirational Districts Programme”, on April 18.
At a meeting held in the conference hall of DC’s office in Nongpoh, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, MB Tongper, presented a detailed overview of developmental activities in various sectors of the district to the Union Minister.
Present at the meeting were Joram Beda (IAS), Arpit Upadhyay (IAS), Giri Prasad (IPS), RDH Kharlukhi – Deputy Secretary Planning Dept, BJ Kharshandy MCS, Addl Deputy Commissioner and others.
In his speech, Rijiju highlighted the importance of the Aspirational District programme saying that it aims at the speedy and effective transformation of a district. He also said that the aspirational districts are ranked based on the progress they have made on various key indicators of health, education, agriculture, basic infrastructure, financial inclusion and skill development.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2018, the Aspirational Districts programme aims to quickly and effectively transform 112 most under-developed districts across the country.
