KSKBUH urges Mawlai residents to hoist black flags from August 13

SHILLONG:

The Ka Sur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (KSKBUH), also known as the Voice of the People of Hynniewtrep, has urged the residents of Mawlai to put up black flags in front of their houses and on vehicles for three days from August 13 as a mark of protest against the government’s failure to take action against the police officials involved in the alleged killing of former HNLC leader (L) Cheristerfield Thangkhiew last year.

The KSKBUH, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said, “We are not against the government of India or celebrating Independence Day but we are against the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for not taking any action against the culrptits involved in the killing of Thangkhiew. One year has passed but still no positive outcome in this case.”

The group has also demanded the government to not deploy any police personnel from August 12 to 15 as it wants to ensure that the first death anniversary of Thangkhiew passes off peacefully on August 13.

Meanwhile, a short documentary film on the self-styled HNLC leader will be shown at Mawdatbaki Stand Bus at 7 pm on August 12, to pay tribute to Thangkhiew.
