KSU asks people to shun bursting firecrackers

The union pointed out that the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills district has also promulgated an order dated October 21 to regulate and set up measures for the given day.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union – Laban Circle has urged the public at large to refrain from bursting firecrackers in public places and public thoroughfares during the Diwali celebration on Monday.

In the notice circulated by the environment secretary of the union, it stated that excessive use of firecrackers and others have had significant affect on the air quality and the environment as a whole thereby having detrimental effect on public health.

The union pointed out that the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills district has also promulgated an order dated October 21 to regulate and set up measures for the given day.

“The union strongly acclaims that the public follows it strongly and as given within the stipulated time period of 8 PM to 10 PM on October 24, 2022 without fail,” the union stated.

Lastly, the union urged the public not to burst firecrackers on account of Diwali celebrations as it has various impacts on the environment and also endangers public health and safety.
