KSU demands action against illegal sand mining

The letter stated that the illegal mining of sand is against Section 2 of the MMDR Act 1975 under the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The mining has caused soil erosion and landslide in the area.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Saiden Unit on Tuesday lodged a complaint against illegal sand mining and demanding a stop to it immediately.

In the complaint to the Forest and Environment department, the union stated that the illegal sand mining is taking place at Iew Sier under the Umtasor Beat of Territorial Forest department. The complaint has been submitted to the Assistant Range Forest Officer, Territorial Forest department at Umtasor Beat which is under Nongpoh Territorial Division.

The letter stated that the illegal mining of sand is against Section 2 of the MMDR Act 1975 under the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The mining has caused soil erosion and landslide in the area.
