KSU observes U Tirot Sing Syiem’s death anniversary in Ri Bhoi

The programme was held at JNV school, Niangbari, in presence of school principal SC Mawchiary, office bearers of the KSU North Khasi Hills district unit, union members, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) along with the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School (JNV), Niangbari, Ri Bhoi, observed the 187th death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem, the brave warrior who fought against the British in the 19th Century, on July 16.

The programme was held at JNV school, Niangbari, in presence of school principal SC Mawchiary, office bearers of the KSU North Khasi Hills district unit, union members, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.

Speaking on the occasion, Mawchiary said that he first heard about the great and brave fighter of Meghalaya during his school days on the radio.

“I am very happy that now the statue of this hero stands in front of my office, which reminds me of all the great heroes who fought against the British for our independence,” Mawchiary said.

Meanwhile, James H Mawphniang, general secretary KSU NKHD Unit, said, “The statue is not just for beautification, but a reminder how our heroes fought courageously and sacrificed their lives for us; their statues inspire us to fight for our right, to defend our land and to love our own.”
