SHILLONG:
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Pynursla unit, organised an event to mark the closing ceremony of Mawbyrne LP School silver jubilee celebrations on March 12.
The school was founded by KSU in 1997 at Mawbyrne Village under Raid Rangnah, Khyrim Syiemship, East Khasi Hills, when Paul Lyngdoh served as the President of the KSU Central Executive Council.
While Lyngdoh (Ex-president KSU, CEC) graced the event as the chief guest, organising secretary of the KSU CEC Osternic Marbaniang, was the guest of honour at the event. Others who attended the event included members of KSU Central Executive Council, officers from the education department, parents, headman, villagers of Mawbyrne, and ex-students of the school.
Addressing the event, Lyngdoh said, “Education is the power, one of the precious things that one can have especially for us the minorities. Everyone needs education to excel in life as someone rightly said ‘A Pen is Mightier than Sword’.”
Narrating the history of the school, one of the founding members, Lengskhem Diengdoh, deliberated on how the KSU built the school back in 1997 when the village had no electricity or road connectivity. The children as a result had to bear the brunt of the lacking facilities.
Diengdoh also thanked the members of KSU for their efforts in building the school and changing the lives of children in the area.
