KSU unhappy over influx in state

“We don’t know what happened to the MRSSA,” KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar told reporters.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Wednesday questioned the failure of the state government to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 which seeks to check unabated influx into the state.

“We don’t know what happened to the MRSSA,” KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar told reporters.

He said that the state government had assured the setting up of an entry point at Umling in Ri Bhoi district to check illegal influx in the state but ironically, “the said entry point was turned into a Covid testing centre”.

Stating that with each passing day, illegal influx is continuing in the state, Marngar said, “It is high time the government of Meghalaya woke up from its slumber and take action.”

He also warned, “If the state government fails to put in place effective anti-influx mechanisms, it should not blame the NGOs for taking the law into their own hands.”

The KSU chief also asked both the state and central government to make their stand clear whether it is a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the demand for implementation of ILP.

On the border issue, the KSU chief said that the state government has now decided to include all the three district councils in the regional committees constituted to find a solution in resolving the six remaining areas of difference. “However, we want the government to ensure that the border solution should be acceptable to the people living in the border and it should not bring tears to their eyes,” he added.
