Shillong:
The inaugural function of the 2nd annual convention-cum-professional workshop of the Regional Tourist Guides Association (Delhi-NCR) was held on August 8 at a city hotel.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Tour Operators Association, Banlum Blah, expressed concern on the challenges faced by tourists due to lack of professional tour guides in Meghalaya.
“If you look at the North East, especially Meghalaya, we have lakhs of domestic tourists but there is a lesser number of foreign tourists. Maybe one of the reasons is because we do not have professional tour guides,” he said.
Others who spoke at the programme were Regional Director (North East) Ministry of Tourism, Anil Oraw, Director of Tourism CVD Diengdoh and president of Regional Tour Guides’ Association Anand Pandey.
