Law and order situation under control, militancy at its lowest in state: DGP

Responding to the issue of coal mining and what steps are being taken by the police department to tackle the matter, Bishnoi said that the department is going as per the orders of the High Court, and wherever mistakes are being pointed out, the police are trying to plug the loopholes.

SHILLONG:

Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi, on April 14, said that the law-and-order situation is more or less under control in the state, with the cooperation from the people, and most of the crimes at the district-level are not directly related to law and order.

“Fortunately, militancy is at its lowest level, and whatever remnant groups are there, they are in the peace process, they are talking with the centre interlocutors, so there are not many problems as of today. However, future challenges will remain, and for that we are trying to strengthen our law-and-order branch,” the DGP told media persons at the SPs and Commanders level conference on April 14.

Responding to the issue of coal mining and what steps are being taken by the police department to tackle the matter, Bishnoi said that the department is going as per the orders of the High Court, and wherever mistakes are being pointed out, the police are trying to plug the loopholes.

“But again, you know the area is too large, and the police strength is not proportionately equated to dominate each and every area; some of them are inside forests and inhospitable, which pose a challenge to the department. However, police are trying their best to stop all these illegal activities,” he said.

Bishnoi further said that whatever directions come from the court or the government, the department will definitely follow those instructions.
